About

K.P. Noushad Ali

K.P. Noushad Ali was born on March 29, 1978, at the District Hospital in Manjeri, Malappuram. The son of two school teachers, his childhood was shaped by classrooms, books, and constant movement across places such as Uppala and Kumbala in Kasaragod. Growing up in a home where learning was a way of life, he developed a deep curiosity about the world from an early age. His parents’ profession meant that education was never merely a routine—it was a value that quietly shaped his thinking and character.

It was during his high school years that reading became more than a habit for him; it became a window to understanding society. Books like Glimpses of World History and The Discovery of India opened up a wider world of ideas and politics. The writings and ideals of Jawaharlal Nehru left a deep impression on the young Noushad, nurturing in him a belief in pluralism, democracy, and social justice that would later guide his public life.

After completing his pre-degree from NSS College, Manjeri, he pursued a Diploma in Civil Engineering from Tirur Polytechnic. But even as he studied engineering, his mind was drawn to the life of public engagement. From his high school days he had been associated with the Kerala Students Union (KSU), and his years at Tirur Polytechnic saw him serve two consecutive terms as the KSU Unit President. The 1990s were turbulent years in campus politics, and Noushad’s commitment often came at a personal cost. He faced violence, police cases, and even imprisonment while standing firm in his convictions against injustice. Those experiences only strengthened his resolve to remain active in public life.

Over the years, his political journey grew steadily through dedication and grassroots engagement. In 2007 he became the General Secretary of the Areecode Block Congress Committee. Two years later, in 2009, he was selected as one of the twelve young leaders from Kerala chosen through Rahul Gandhi’s Talent Hunt programme, in which more than 650 Youth Congress members had participated. This recognition marked an important moment in his journey, bringing him into the Youth Congress State Committee and widening his role in organisational work.

Noushad continued to build his political life step by step. In the 2010 Local Self Government elections, he served as a member representing the Areecode Block Division and was also part of the Development Standing Committee. In 2015 he became the General Secretary of the Malappuram District Congress Committee under the leadership of E. Muhammad Kunju. Later, in 2018, he was elected as a member of the KPCC from Areecode Block. His organisational responsibilities continued to grow as he was appointed KPCC Secretary in 2020 and KPCC General Secretary in 2025.

While organisational roles defined one part of his journey, public communication became another important aspect of his identity. Since 2005 he has been a familiar voice in public meetings across Kerala, known for his clarity of thought and his ability to connect with people. Over the years he has addressed hundreds of gatherings, earning recognition as a compelling speaker within the Congress movement. From 2018 onwards, he also emerged as a thoughtful presence in television debates, representing the party in discussions across major Malayalam news channels. In addition to this, he began writing regularly from 2020 onwards, contributing columns to mainstream newspapers on a wide range of topics including politics, history, literature, cinema, science, and travel.

Noushad is also known for his remarkable linguistic ability. Fluent in six languages—Malayalam, Hindi, English, Tamil, Kannada, and Tulu—he is equally comfortable in conversations across cultural and regional boundaries. He can also read and write Arabic. His command over languages has often made him a bridge between leaders and people; he has served as a translator during the public meetings of several national leaders visiting Kerala, including during the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign.

Yet beyond titles and public appearances, Noushad’s identity is deeply connected with social service. As the Chairman of the MP Gangadharan Foundation, he has been closely involved in a range of initiatives aimed at supporting communities and strengthening social bonds. Projects like Kaithang, a mobile stationery initiative, special medical camps for women organised with the support of Lakeshore Hospital’s CSR programme, and the establishment of an Ayyappa Idathavalam in Ponnani for Sabarimala pilgrims reflect his commitment to practical service. His initiatives have also extended into the fields of arts, culture, sports development, and women’s empowerment, including efforts such as the Ponnani Literature Fest and various cultural and youth-oriented programmes.

Those who know Noushad Ali closely often describe him not merely as a political figure, but as someone who approaches public life with a sense of responsibility and empathy. For him, politics has never been an abstract exercise of power; it is a platform to listen, to engage, and to respond to the needs of ordinary people. His journey—from a teacher’s son growing up among books, to a student activist who faced adversity, to a political organiser and public intellectual—reflects a life shaped by conviction and service.

At the heart of his story lies a simple belief: that public life must always remain rooted in people, their struggles, their aspirations, and their dignity. It is this belief that continues to guide K.P. Noushad Ali’s work and his vision for the future.
